Parkour: the art/discipline of getting from point a to point b as quickly and efficiently as possible. Most of us drive everywhere we go, and with the busy life styles of today in which our destinations are miles away and we fill our schedules so full we have to be there within minutes, that is the only way to get around. As we drive from one end of town to the other however we use energy getting in and out of the car, we burn gas as we drives, and we cant get there in a straight line. Imagine if you would a way to get from one area to another without taking any detours or byways. This is obviously impossible in cars there just isn't enough space for every car to go every which way. What if we give up the lazy, energy wasting cars and walked around town? Following sidewalks it would take forever and be completely inefficient, but we're getting closer. Instead of walking around that trashcan though what if we conditioned our muscles to easily sail over it without wasting energy? What if we did the same when a large building got in our way so we climbed it? This is Parkour quickly and efficiently moving through our environment overcoming obstacles along the way. There are no detours, no frills, and no waste of energy.

Freerunning: getting from point a to point be as flashily as possible while running. Parkour is pretty impressive on it's own, but what happens when you add in flips, kicks, and all sorts of other things to impress people? The answer is that you get freerunning. Some people disagree and say that the two are completely different because freerunning goes against the very foundational principle of parkour (efficiency). While agree that in that aspect they are different, I think that just as sprinting and cross country are both running, parkour and freerunning utilize enough of the same core fundamentals that they are in the same category. Now I personally put tricking into this same category, but as freerunning covers tricks I'm not making an extra section for it. If you're willing to waste some energy but impress people then freerunning is for you.
